Lagniappe: A Little Something Extra

For the past three years, a specific word or phrase has been chosen for the focus of the Simmons yearbook. The 2014-2015 issue was I Am. Students and faculty finished the statement with how they saw themselves. The responses were powerful and were displayed in the school’s main hall in front of the lower gym. The next school year, 2015-2016, the statement began with I Can. The enlightening responses were also exhibited just beyond the school’s entrance. This year, the word is Lagniappe which, in Cajun French, means a little something extra. The students and faculty focused their attention on deciding what that little something extra would be for either themselves or someone else this year - something that would make a difference. In the end, all of these efforts will be a ray of sunshine in the lives of many, hence the sun that makes up the many and varied phrases on display in the school’s hallway. Stop by to see the difference our students and faculty are making.
