Sixth Graders Visit Samford University

The SMS 6th graders recently visited Samford University. Samford offers a scavenger hunt program for middle schoolers so they understand what college is all about. It was a great opportunity for the students to have a little taste of college, spark some interest in continuing their education, and understand how important grades are.

The scavenger hunt allowed the students to go all across the Samford campus to hear about classes, college life, traditions, have lunch in the Samford café, and other interesting facts. One tradition the students learned about was rubbing the nose of the statue of the Samford president for good luck on whatever test is being taken. They also had the chance to talk freely with their small group leaders about what college is like, to hear the good and the bad, and to see that their grades affect where they end up.
