Simmons Students Take Part in Bridge Building Competition

Recently, the UAB School of Engineering sponsored a contest for all grades at Simmons to take part in a bridge building competition. Students who signed up, formed teams of 1-4 members and worked together to problem solve and apply some basic principles of engineering. The teams built bridges made of only raw spaghetti noodles and hot glue. The bridges had to meet certain height, weight, and length specifications. The final submissions were tested by the staff and students from UAB in order to see how much weight the bridge could withstand. The first place winning team included Griffin Lyda, Justin McDowell, Danny Tackett, and Connor White with a bridge efficiency of 61.59%; the second place team included Marshall Fox, Lorenzo Garcia, Midhun Sadanand, and Maxwell Wainwright with a bridge efficiency of 60.23%; and the third place team included Cassie Camp, Amelia Dutton, and Nathalie Gonce with a bridge efficiency of 55.86%. Congrats to all the teams!
