Simmons Middle School To Get a New Outdoor Look

Due to your generosity, the front of Simmons is going to look a bit different when you come back to school in fall. With the success of the BUC$ Bounty Hunt fundraiser that took place at the beginning of this school year, PTO was able to take some of that extra money and embark on some much-needed work to the front of school.

Earlier this year, PTO worked with Signature Homes to extend the curb across from the entrance to school which makes it safer when entering and exiting your car. Signature Homes framed and poured the concrete as well as generously donated all the materials and labor for this part of the project.

The landscaping portion of the work, which is phase one, will start once school is out. This phase will involve removing the trees between the lower parking area and the front of school. (Many of these trees are in bad shape due to last summer’s drought.) Additionally, this area will be prepped for new plantings (trees and shrubs), which will be Phase 2. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in late summer.

Giving the entrance a fresh, new look is due to your generosity during the BUC$ Bounty Hunt fundraiser, causing PTO to exceed their fundraising goal. As a result, funds were available to be used to undertake some additional projects at the school, like the landscaping; new umbrellas in the courtyard, making that area useable for classes and meetings in the sunnier months; and an increase in classroom grants for items that benefit all students.

Funding these projects is just one way your support of the PTO budget benefits the school and the students. Please watch for information early next school year about the 2017-2018 PTO fundraising efforts. Without you, none of this is possible!
