Valerie Morgan Named 2017-2018 HCS JSU Teacher Hall of Fame Nominee

December 14, 2017 Simmons Middle School band director Valerie Morgan has been named the 2017-2018 HCS Middle School Nominee for the Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of Fame.

Morgan has spent most of her teaching career teaching the middle school learner.  She strives to create fast-paced learning environments where students become engaged, active learners.

Prior to Hoover City Schools, Morgan taught in various school systems from all settings: urban, suburban, rural, and private.  Despite the diversity of school systems, Morgan found many commonalities among all her students - and structured her pedagogy to tap into their individual success. Her bands have been invited to perform at some of the world’s most renowned music venues, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall.

Morgan has been awarded the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence three times.  Additionally, she has been a presenter at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic (2014) and a conductor at numerous local, state, and regional district honor bands/clinics.  Also of note - her bands have only earned superior ratings in all evaluated festival events since 1993.

Morgan holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Troy University and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music.
