Earlier this week, we looked at

Niche's list of best public high schools in Alabama. Now, it's

time to look at the best public middle schools.

The rankings are based on state test scores, student-teacher

ratio, student diversity, teacher quality, middle school ratings,

and the overall quality of the school district.

Here are the top 20 public middle schools in Alabama,

according to Niche:

  1. Mountain Brook Junior High School
  2. Homewood Middle School
  3. Louis Pizitz Middle School (Vestavia)
  4. Berry Middle School (Hoover)
  5. Brock's Gap Intermediate School (Hoover)
  6. Liberty Park Middle School (Vestavia Hills)
  7. Ira F. Simmons Middle School (Hoover)
  8. Robert F. Bumpus Middle School (Hoover)
  9. Liberty Middle School (Madison)
  10. Discovery Middle School (Madison)
  11. Enterprise Junior High School (Enterprise)
  12. Auburn Junior High School (Auburn)
  13. Drake Middle School (Auburn)
  14. Dauphin Junior High School (Enterprise)
  15. Muscle Shoals Middle School (Muscle Shoals)
  16. Riverchase Middle School (Pelham)
  17. CeHanna School (Hobson City)
  18. Cullman Middle School
  19. Arab Junior High School
  20. Hartselle Junior High School

A reader pointed out these rankings are different than the State Board of Education's school report cards released late last year. That's correct - they are different. Niche uses several different factors, including parent reviews, when making its rankings. You can see the site's complete methodology here. You can see the state's school report cards here.
